River Nith Salmon/Sea Trout Experience Days 2019

The River Nith held a salmon fishing open day on Saturday 31st August 2019.  This event followed a similar theme as, the already established, sea trout open events held annually on the Nith in recent years.  When organising a specific fishing event you are always at the mercy of the weather and water conditions.  In our experience anglers appreciate this and understand that these circumstances are out of our control.  This year’s sea trout event went well with ideal conditions for sea trout fishing, fish were captured every night and a total of 21 sea trout, 4 herling, 12 brown trout, 1 salmon and 4 grayling were landed over the four evenings that fishing took place.  Our salmon open day was hampered by rising water from the previous evening but many anglers enthusiastically turned out and fished on the last day of August.  Trout, grayling and sea trout were captured and salmon were hooked and lost.  Alas that’s fishing!

Having spoken to owners, beat representatives and anglers, the event was enjoyed by all who took part and was considered to have raised the profile of the River Nith significantly.  Participants in the salmon open day came from the central belt in Scotland to the North and from the midlands in England to the South.  It is hoped that by giving anglers the opportunity to experience fishing on the Nith that they may return to fish the river again.
