Management Plan
The work of the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board and the Nth Catchment Fishery Trust has previously been guided by a Fishery Management Plan. The first iteration of that plan was developed in 2008 as part of a national project through, what was then, RAFTS (Rivers and Fishery Trusts of Scotland) and with the aid of funding from the Scottish Government. The project was designed to develop plans for individual river catchments throughout Scotland, taking into account the entire ecosystem. In 2014, a second version of the plan was developed to cover the five year period 2014 – 2018.
Subsequent to Fishery Plans for rivers, Fishery Management Scotland (FMS), working in conjunction with Marine Scotland Science and representatives of Scottish rivers, have developed a Fishery Management tool outlining the pressures which rivers face in Scotland. Twelve pressures have been identified nationally and it will be for individual rivers to access the extent as to how these pressures impact on their river.
