River Nith Category 2 for the 2017 season

Many fishers on the River Nith will have enthusiastically read the recent announcement from the Scottish Government that the River Nith’s conservation status has been elevated to category 2 for the coming 2017 season.  This follows a lengthy detailed appeal process in which the Nith Board and Trust fine-tuned the information supplied to the Government to ensure that our conservation categorisation is as accurate as it can be.  Whilst we are very pleased with our elevation to Category 2, we are in no doubts that our stocks of salmon require every assistance from us at this time of depleted populations.  Nith District Salmon Fishery Board and Trust are considering methods that we can adopt to ensure the survival of our Atlantic Salmon for the long term not just on a season by season basis.
