Railway Landslip
The Dumfries to Kilmarnock railway line has suffered from a landslip recently which has resulted in the partial closure of the railway line. The landslip has occurred on a section of railway between Portrack Viaduct and Auldgirth Village at a narrow section between the hillside and the River Nith. The slip has resulted in a quantity of material entering the River Nith. Network Rail representatives have been in contact with local interested parties to discuss the works required to effect repairs to the railway. Nith District Salmon Fishery Board have also been contacted by Network Rail to discuss how the construction project and the recovery of material from the River Nith can be achieved, causing minimal impacts on fish and the aquatic environment.
Nith District Salmon Fishery Board will continue to work with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Network Rail and their environmental team to ensure that any adverse environmental impacts created by this incident are reduced or eliminated where possible.
