Opening of the River Nith 2020 salmon fishing season
Tuesday 25th February saw the start of the salmon fishing season on the River Nith for 2020. This year’s opening ceremony was held by kind permission of His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch at the Drumlanrig Estate, Thornhill. Despite recent inclement weather, the river had dropped in and a fine day ensued. Proceedings got off to a start with Piper Sandy Dunlop welcoming guests to the event followed by speeches from Nith District Salmon Fishery Board River Director Jim Henderson, Drumlanrig Estate Manager Anna Fergusson and MSP Oliver Mundell. Oliver offered a toast of malt whisky to the river and its fish, wishing all anglers a good season to come.
