Opening Day of Salmon Fishing Season 2018 on the River Nith

A cold day with flakes of snow blowing on the wind welcomed the start of the Salmon Fishing season for 2018 on the River Nith.  This year’s opening ceremony was held at Dalswinton Estate, near Auldgirth.  The event was well attended by anglers from across Dumfries and Galloway, net fishermen, politicians and members of the “Nith Young Anglers” club who had the privilege of taking the “first cast”.  Mr Davey Kempsell gave a short speech ahead of proceedings followed by a toast to the river given by MSP Joan McAlpine.  Piper Sandy Dunlop piped a procession to the river where one of our young anglers Andrew Millar, captured a well mended kelt, his first salmon.
