Nith Sea Trout Experience – week 3
Congratulations to John Mulligan who caught a 10lb sea trout (a PB for him) whilst fishing Friars Carse beat on the River Nith last Friday night (29th June) as part of the NDSFB’s Nith Sea Trout experience. John and his brother had been fishing the Riding Stone pool, upstream of Friars Carse Hotel, and had already put a fly through the pool a few times when John hooked and landed a 10lb sea trout on a size 8 black Pennell. The fish was safely returned with the minumum of handling. They saw no other sea trout so it just goes to show what can be lurking under the water despite these low water conditions.
Laurie Smith’s team fished the Upper beat on Buccleuch and although they never managed land a fish they saw plenty of sea trout and all of them hooked into fish. It looks like there may be some season tickets for Buccleuch being purchased next year which is wonderful news and what this event is all about. Showcasing our beautiful river and encouraging people to try different beats!
