Eels
During the course of the year the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board and Nith Catchment Fishery Trust staff conducted electrofishing surveys for various reasons across the entire Nith catchment, a total of 115 sites were surveyed during 2014. All species of fish are recorded during these operations, with habitat surveys also being conducted in certain locations. The data gained, is used to assist in making management decisions in the Nith catchment.
This information can also be of national and even international importance. Recently we contributed our data on eels, along with other organisations from the Solway/Tweed River Basin management area of the European Water Framework Directive, the information will be used to assist this species. Eels have declined in numbers and we are all “doing our bit” to reverse this trend.
