River Nith 2022 Salmon Fishing Season Opening Event
The Nith District Salmon Fishery Board, in association with Friars Carse Country House Hotel, would like to invite you to attend an opening event for the 2022 salmon fishing season at Friars Carse on Friday 25th of February. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have been unable to celebrate the commencement of the salmon fishing season since 2020. With the easing of restrictions in Scotland we are pleased to be able to hold this event once again.
As always, this event is intended to bring the river community together to celebrate the commencement of the coming season. All who are involved with Scottish fisheries are aware of the pressures that our salmon stocks currently face. Fishers are doing their best for conservation of stocks by returning all salmon captured. Nith District Salmon Fishery Board and Nith Catchment Fishery Trust are conducting research and initiatives to ensure that we fully understand any issues that salmon face within the freshwater environment. We are working with our partners, Atlantic Salmon Trust, to research the marine phase of our salmon’s migration in a bid to better understand any issues encountered at sea.
Friars Carse Country House Hotel have kindly offered that all who attend the opening event may fish their beat, free of charge, for the Opening Day, Friday 25th February, following the Opening Ceremony. Jonathan Morris, who is an Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor (AAPGAI) will be offering a Casting clinic following the ceremony. Places can be booked with Jonathan on the day.
Please note that whilst all are welcome, it is essential that you confirm your intention to attend (RSVP). This will enable us to cater for the appropriate number of people and enable us to comply with law in relation to permission to fish.
