Return and Reward

In a move to help encourage the return of spring salmon and sea trout to the river, the Nith District Salmon Fishery Board aims to reward fishers that return spring salmon and sea trout.

  • Any fisher (rod or net) who returns a spring salmon (caught before 1st May) will be rewarded with a NDSFB sweatshirt bearing the slogan “Save our Salmon, put them back” specially designed by Loreburn Primary School.
  • Any fisher (rod or net) who returns a large sea trout over 3lbs in weight will be rewarded with a baseball cap bearing the slogan “Nith Sea Trout, don’t fish them out” which was designed by Sanquhar Primary School.

Fishers wishing to claim either a sweatshirt or a baseball cap should contact the Senior Water Bailiff on 07785 743 663.

Rules
Only one sweatshirt and baseball cap per person per season.
The spring salmon reward is for salmon caught and returned between 25th February and 30th April.
The sea trout reward is given for sea trout over 3lbs being caught and returned between 25th February and 30th November.

Tip – verification may be achieved by photo of the fish being released (remember to include an article such as a reel for scale) or a credible witness statement.

The Board reserves the right to refuse any reward without appropriate verification of capture and release.
